Community Football Foundation Degree (Year One and Two)

The Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development has been designed in conjunction with the EFL Trust in order to identify the type of skills and qualities that are required to work within professional football clubs, community departments or national governing bodies in areas of growth such as social inclusion, community coaching and football development.

On this football coaching course, you’ll learn about children and youth coaching, sports coaching, football development, social inclusion and sports management skills.

You’ll be based predominantly within your own football club with a minimum of five days per year at the University of South Wales Sport Park, our £3.7m state-of-the-art coaching and performance development centre. You will be enrolled as a student at the University of South Wales and have access to an on-line library, blackboard and other learning materials.

In year two you will complete up to 200 hours of coaching (work-based learning) that is managed through weekly tutorials and a comprehensive mentoring programme. The work-based learning programme will be completed within the professional football clubs and will provide opportunities to gain experience in areas such as social inclusion, school and grass-root club development, football development and coaching.

Also, you will study towards your Level 2 Football Coaching Certificate and will have numerous opportunities to undertake additional vocational awards.

BSc (Hons) Football Coaching, Development and Administration (Year Three)

In partnership with the University of South Wales, this degree is specifically designed for students who have already obtained a football-related Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification. The BSc (Hons) Football Coaching, Development and Administration (Top-Up) allows you to gain a full Bachelor of Science degree in less than a year.

This unique course focuses on both the football and business related knowledge needed to develop professionals for the football industry, in particular football coaching and community development. You will consolidate your learning and start to specialise your work-based learning experience in line with your career ambitions. Developed in partnership with professional coaching organisations, this football coaching course allows you to study and gain work placements across the globe. The course has two possible study routes – on campus or via distance learning. Whichever option you choose, you will be provided with knowledge of a holistic approach to community coaching, sports development and management that incorporates the impact of leadership, strategy, management and marketing in sport.
