A place on NCS costs £1,500 but it is funded by the government, so the most we’ll ask you to contribute is £50. At some points during the year we also run deals and offers, so could be even cheaper. We also have a bursary scheme available that’s 100% confidential, so just get in touch if you don’t think you can afford it or have any questions about the bursary scheme. For anyone on free school meals, pupil premium or a young carer, the contribution cost is £25.
We’ll always provide a designated multi-faith space for those that wish to pray, quietly reflect or meditate. And if you have any dietary requirements, like Kosher or Halal – or anything else for that matter – let us when you fill in the Young Person Joining Information. Our venues will be able to cater for this.
While we can’t provide respite cover, we can work with your Local Authority to look into arranging appropriate cover. We want everyone to be able to experience NCS so get in touch and we’ll discuss how we can best support you.
NCS is open to all, and trans people are no exception. We’ll always do what we can to create an environment where all teens feel safe to be themselves. So if you have any questions or concerns – for example, you might like to discuss accommodation preferences, toilets, changing room facilities etc – let us know and we’ll work with you to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
At NCS, we’ll do everything we can to ensure our programmes are inclusive and accessible at every stage. So when your teen signs up, we’ll ask them to tell us more about their individual needs in the Young Person Joining Information. In some cases, you might get a call from us to chat about how we can support them and find the NCS programme that’s best for them. Adjustments made will always respond to the individual. This might include (but isn’t limited to) physical spaces, level and type of staffing support, equipment and activities.
They certainly are. To stop dietary requirements and pesky allergies getting in the way of NCS, we ensure our venues can cater for everyone. Just let us know your needs when you sign up via the Joining Information Form. Or if you’d like to chat to somebody, call 02392 728 899 (option 2). Or head to the NCS website for our live chat.
Yes, it’s our job to make NCS accessible for everyone, so we’ll do everything we can to accommodate young people with disabilities. When you sign up, tell us more about yourself in the Young Person Joining Information so we can support you in the best way possible. In some cases, you might get a call from us to discuss your individual requirements and to find the best NCS programme for you. Also, all our staff are trained to a high standard to assess individual needs and ensure you have a blast. Have any questions? Call 02392 728 899 (option 2). Or head to the NCS website for our live chat.
The quickest and simplest way to apply for NCS is online. Parents and guardians can do this at any time; our application form is open now! As our limited places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, we recommend you sign up as soon as possible. Please visit: wearencs
NCS is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Young people can sign up with friends, and if they apply for the same date they have a good chance of being on the same programme. You can submit your request to be in the same team as a friend on the application form or get in touch with us.
Once a young person has signed up, if not already stated on your application you can email with a request to be in the same team. We will do our best to take this into consideration. We cannot guarantee friends will be in the same team or programme, signing up early will increase the chances of this. We try our best to put friends together in a team, but cap this to a maximum of 4 friends in one team.
Young people shouldn’t worry about going on a different programme or being in a different team from their friends, as this is the case for many participants. We only allow a certain number of young people from any one school on each programme, and therefore the programme will be the first time many young people meet one another. Before and throughout the programme, and particularly at the beginning, there will be many team games and icebreakers to ensure that everyone gets to know each other in their team. There are also plenty of opportunities before NCS starts to meet other people who you will be going with.
In addition, many young people say that one of the best parts of the NCS programme was meeting lots of new people and making new friends.
Completing an application form will enable us to process your application but does not guarantee a place. Please note that we cannot assign a place to a young person until the parent or guardian has completed the application form, made payment and completed and sent back the joining form.
As our places are allocated on a first-come, first served basis, we recommend signing up as soon as possible, otherwise, the young person may be placed on a waiting list.
To apply for one of our limited places, the young person’s parent or guardian needs to complete an application form, including the joining and payment. Our team will then be in touch either to ask for further information or to confirm the status of your application.
If a young person no longer wishes to take part in NCS, please contact us via email or call 02392 728 899 (option 2). Our friendly NCS team will talk through the options with you and your son/daughter to find out if there is anything we can do to support them.
We will invite parents, guardians, and participants to a Departure evening before the programme begins. Departure Meetings will take place in May/June where our staff will be available to answer any questions that you may have and give further information about the programme including drop off and pick up locations and times.
If you unable to attend the departure evening please don’t worry, all the key information you need to know is in the information pack that will be emailed to you.
We will provide all specialist equipment such as wetsuits, helmets and life jackets, therefore you only need to bring personal belongings. You will be provided with an NCS T-Shirt and we will expect you to wear your NCS tops as often as possible. Please take this into consideration when packing. Also consider the weather closer to the time of your trip.
You are allowed to bring your mobile phone and you will be able to use it when activities are not taking place. Please note that you will be spending a large amount of time on the beach and/or around water. Your phone will be solely your responsibility and mobile reception may be poor.
Also consider the fact that you will be in the countryside, therefore, mobile reception will be very poor. We do not advise that you bring any other electrical equipment such as a Game Boy, iPad, laptop, PSP or kindle. Cameras are optional, but again your responsibility.
You will not need hairdryers, straighteners or curling tongs! You’re in and out of the sea all day and you will not have time to do your hair!
Spending money is not essential as everything is provided. However, there may be opportunities for you to buy souvenirs and other refreshments. Therefore you may wish to bring a small amount of money with you on both residential. We recommend no more than £10.
We will never force anyone to participate in anything they do not feel comfortable with. We encourage young people to challenge themselves to the point where they are comfortable. We will encourage young people to take part in every activity, but if you are concerned about an activity, please feel free to call us beforehand to discuss this or you can speak to a member of staff on the programme. You can call us on 02392 728 899
Week 1 is a festival, glamping style set up based at Weymouth and Portland adventure. All accommodation is single sex only, however, where possible, we do allow young people to pick who they would like to share a tent with.
Week 2 is based at Portsmouth University Student Halls. During this week, young people will have their own, en-suite rooms.
